Efon Local Government was created on December 4th, 1996 with its headquarters at Efon Alaaye by the then Head of State General Sanni Abacha.

The Local Government shares boundaries with Ijebu-Ijesha in Osun State in the West with Erio Ekiti in the Eastern part of Ekiti and in the North with Esa-Oke also in Osun State and in South with Ipole Iloro in Ekiti State.

Efon Local Government is made up of various towns and villages namely Efon Alaaye, Ahun Ekiti, Iwaji, Alajo, Odo Amo, Igbo Oye, Aladura, Aro, Ayetoro, Surulere 1 & 2, Araromi, Abeta, Awure, Ologunde, Irunsin, Obake, Alagba Mesan, Igbo Olofin, Oko Adagba, and Oroo.

The population of Efon Local Government according to the Population Census of 2006 census projection is about 247,373.

Efon Local Government occupies a total landmass of 243,210 sq Kilometers with 55km length and 30km breadth. The Local Government’s geographical landscape is dominated by richly vegetated hills, plains and valleys. The climate of Efon Local Government is tropical in nature with two major seasons, the rainy and the dry season.

Efon Local Government has some tourist Centres including River Oni, Babalola Memorial Park, Igbo Are and Abeta, and some important Rivers.

Efon Local Government has a good network of roads linking the Local Government with other Local Governments or States that share boundaries with Efon Local Government.

The people of Efon Local Government are predominantly farmers dealing in food crops such as yam, rice, cassava, maize, pineapple, palm oil, cashew, etc.

TRADITIONAL RULERS

Efon Local Government has 2 traditional rulers. Namely His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr) Emmanuel Adesanya Aladejare. The Agunsoye II (JP) Alayemore of Efon Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Oba Jacob Adelowo, the Alahun of Ahun-Ekiti.

There are six quarters which made up of “Iwarafa Mefa” these are:

  • Obanla of Aaye Quarters.
  • Obaloja of Obalu Quarters
  • Peteeko of Isaja Quarters
  • Oisajigan of Ejigan Quarters
  • Alaayo of Emo Quarters
  • Ojubu of Ukagbe Quarters.
